Modern living, it drives me up the wall Modern living, I'm thinking criminal I'm not incentivized I'm not gonna sacrifice Just to be in the red And forgotten when I'm dead From a mid-40s suicide Time to pay up For the fuck up It ain't on you but they pass the buck Modern living, it's got me feelin drained Modern living, could really use some brain I live for the present The future is despondent If only those kooks In the hazmat suits Weren't goddamn prophets Time to pay up For the fuck up It ain't on you but they pass the buck I'm gonna give up while the going is good As anybody sensible would Don't shoot the messenger--don't get mad You were born into the time where the going gets bad!
2.
You got out just in time I'm already past my prime We had a hell of a run Ride into the setting sun Who needs bliss anymore Just need a corset of thorns A tourniquet of roses If only it could bleed me out Even the smells still linger on my nose Even for an instant some memory makes it go And I'm right back there The sights and smells and sounds And I'm right back there Who needs bliss anymore Just need a corset of thorns A tourniquet of roses If only it could bleed me out
3.
Naïve 02:30
Unrequited Only after you were done No surprises Don't expect me to wait around
4.
Drinking water I watched the ocean I was standing I have drowned
5.
Low Low 01:23
Want for nothing Take for granted Who wouldn't take you? My eye confection My lips glazed Belly-up saddle thigh
6.
14-2 02:16
I'm inside from outside I'm seeing red, baby I'm seeing valentines
7.
A siren speaks of me in obliques without saying my name. So bold of you, so insolent, two can play at that game. I've been on the inside, you're not as clever as you think. Floodwaters, hurricanes, will I swim or sink? All that's left of you is a lingering bitterness. All that's left of me is a spiraling mess. I'm less than half the man I was before I met you. If you do the math you'll know, that's pretty low. I've got a notebook filled with a long list of clichés. Countless before me have said what I wanna say. I didn't expect myself to ever write a breakup song. But I've been burned so bad, it went into my notepad before long. All that's left of me is a vindictive idiot. All that's left of you is your entire life. I'm less than half the man I was before I met you. I can't seem to let you go, I've gone so low

verb: (1) make continual twisting, squirming movements or contortions of the body. (2) respond with great emotional or physical discomfort to (a violent or unpleasant feeling or thought).

The songs presented here are guaranteed to make someone somewhere do exactly that.

The reason for this EP's existence is the same as the reason for the cancellation of part three of the World Trilogy: the loss of someone whose artistic influence on me was considerable, to say nothing of how deeply I felt for them on a personal and romantic level. Our split was the worst kind. The love was still there but the partnership had to end. From that horrendous day until this, the only thing that has allowed some catharsis for me was creating art.

As it turns out, being suddenly plunged to the lowest point of your life mentally can have some positive side effects if you're an artist. Songs about broken hearts and lost loves are nothing new, but they are new to me. It was territory I was obligated to explore. In short, these are products of emotional anguish, with each track representing a different facet of the grieving process and my attempt to make sense of it. It's sort of helping, but the extent of the grief is such that it's like draining an olympic swimming pool with a shot glass.

Whether this EP is a sign of things to come or a temporary diversion is yet to be seen. In the meantime, enjoy the seven sonic arrangements that will either provide you with some catharsis of your own, or make you recoil and cringe. Beware: It might get loud.

Zhir Vengersky San Diego, California

Zhir Vengersky is the latest devolution of a long, proud family lineage of brain-eating apes which eventually settled in the Southern California region. In his formative years he was exposed to the music of art nerds before him. The effects were immediate and obvious. Zhir creates music for people who live in places that don't exist. ... more
